Q) How can the awards help raise standards and encourage innovation across the sector? 

I’ve always believed our industry is at its best when we’re prepared to share ideas rather than keep them to ourselves. Awards give us the opportunity to showcase what’s working, celebrate the people making a difference and inspire others to think differently. Every great initiative starts with someone asking, “How can we do this better?” If sharing one success helps improve the experience of students somewhere else, then that’s a win for the whole sector.

Q) What advice would you give to someone looking to build a successful career in student accommodation? 

Never forget that we’re in the people business. Yes, we manage buildings, budgets and operations, but at the heart of what we do is helping students through one of the biggest transitions of their lives. Be curious, work hard, say yes to opportunities that stretch you and don’t shy away from the difficult conversations—they’re usually where you learn the most. Build relationships, keep your integrity and always be prepared to keep learning because our industry never stands still.
